Injured Toronto Maple Leafs netminder Matt Murray is still awaiting the green light from the teams' medical staff to return to action despite the veteran goaltender having skated on multiple occasions in recent weeks, but the latest news may have him returning sooner than many think.

The 29-year-old two-time Stanley Cup winner was a full participant in the Maple Leafs morning skate today, which is a huge step in his recovery from bilateral hip surgery. Now, a report from TSN's Chris Johnston during Tuesdays episode of Insider Trading stated that the surgeon who performed the surgery on the Leafs goaltender has set up a meeting in less than two weeks and this will determine if Matt Murray will be able to return to game action this season.

There has been plenty of talk from prominent reporters such as Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman and others stating that Murray could he cleared to play this April, but the key word is could, as there are still many variables in place, including additional conditioning that would have to take place.

If Murray is cleared to play by his surgeon and the team's doctors, we could see him assigned to the AHL's Toronto Marlies for a conditioning stint ahead of the playoffs. From there, nobody is really sure what will happen, but it's a pretty good bet that Murray won't see action for the Leafs in the playoffs unless a string of injuries leave them with no other choice.
