Five players from Canada's 2018 World Junior team told to turn themselves in to police

Hockey Canada has been marred by some very public scandals for the past couple of years regarding "hush funds", violations of safe sport, and most notably, assault cases, specifically regarding the 2018 World junior team. After a lengthy investigation, The Globe and Mail has reported that five members of the 2018 team have been told to surrender to London, Ontario police to face serious charges.

The incident in question occurred following a Hockey Canada Gala in June of 2018 where the team was honoured for winning gold at the previous World Junior Championships. According to The Globe and Mail, the five players have been given a set time to surrender to police to be charged.

Many players on the team had released statements themselves or through their agents and/or lawyers throughout the investigation, however, there were a few players that did not. Recently, Dillon Dube of the Calgary Flames and Carter Hart of the Philadelphia Flyers stepped away from their teams indefinitely for what were called "personal reasons". There is no confirmation yet as to whether either player is involved or if they're simply helping with the investigation.

Depending on who is involved and the severity of charges, we could be looking at multiple NHL players having their contracts terminated. Jail time is also not out of the question, pending a trial or a settlement, of course.
