NHL walks back previous rule change thanks to the actions of one former Maple Leaf

Going into this season, the NHL made the cowardly choice to eliminate players' individual ability to show support for the LGBTQ+ community with Pride tape. The decision didn't go over well with fans and the media, and now we're seeing that players were displeased too.

Travis Dermott was the first player to use Pride tape in-game after the NHL introduced the policy. Dermott was praised by fans and some other players for being the first to take the stand, and now, the NHL has its response. Some had assumed that he'd face supplemental discipline in the form of a fine, but the result was far from what anyone had expected. The NHL has actually walked back their ban on Pride tape.


Earlier today, the NHL released a short statement stating the retraction of their ban on players using tape to support social causes.



The NHL office looks truly lost in this scenario, initially banning players from supporting causes and backpedalling at the first sign of resistance. However, at least now the record seems to be set straight, and players once again have the right to support social causes in practices and on game days.
