Shane Pinto and the Ottawa Senators have been unable to reach an agreement on a new contract for the RFA forward and now it appears that we know what was holding up any positive discussions. According to Elliotte Friedman, Shane Pinto is to be suspended by the NHL for 41 games for violating the league's gambling policy.

Bruce Garrioch, The Ottawa Sun's local Sens reporter, noted that the Sens have rescinded all previous contract offers to Pinto. The Sens did issue Pinto a qualifying offer at the beginning of the off-season and Pinto may have to sign it in order to begin serving his suspension.

The former second-round pick in the 2019 draft was coming off of a 20-goal, 35-point rookie season with the Sens and was hoping to sign a long-term deal. Pinto will now have to hope that he is able to perform well enough when he is eligible to return to the lineup in order to garner a new extension next off-season.
