Leafs and Bruins get chippy in Game 5 with second period line brawl

Tempers were flaring in Game 5 on Tuesday as the Maple Leafs and Boston Bruins engage in a second period melee after a Leafs scoring opportunity.

After two periods the Leafs looked like the better team, despite being held to just one goal by Jeremy Swayman. Near the end of the second frame, Tyler Bertuzzi came within inches of giving the Leafs the lead with a wraparound attempt that rattled around under Swayman while players from both teams piled in. The puck was still loose when the whistle blew, because of course it was.


After the whistle, the Bruins, almost to a man, began going after Leafs players. Pastrnak went after Morgan Rielly before Matthew Knies stepped in to protect the longest tenured Leaf. His invitation to dance was immediately declined by Pastrnak.



Brad Marchand, being the cowardly little rat that he is, chose to go after Mitch Marner, the least tough Leaf on the ice.

Argue as they might, the Bruins couldn't convince their striped shirt wearing friends to give them a powerplay for the scrum that they themselves started. Those of you with good lip reading skills may be able to decipher the referee Steve Kozari's answer to Charlie McAvoy's protests.


The Leafs will start the third period on the power play, hoping to improve on their abysmal 1 for 15 record.
