A few days have come and gone since Patrick Kane surprised the hockey world, inking a 1-year deal with the Detroit Red Wings, who are currently in a playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. The hope is that the addition of a player of Kane's caliber and reputation will result in the Wings securing a playoff spot in the spring, but there's always a chance that they fall out of contention.

One of the big questions surrounding Kane right now is whether or not the Red Wings will be able to move him if things go south. It's worth noting that Kane does have a full no-trade clause built into his contract, but, thankfully for the Red Wings, they already have a deal in place to be able to flip him at the deadline if it looks like they may miss the playoffs. TSN's Pierre LeBrun touched on this during Thursday's edition of Insider Trading.

"Of course, the hope is that #88 gets them in the playoffs and it's a great story and that's what their focus is - but if they fall out, Pat Brisson and Steve Yzerman have had that conversation about 'okay, well, let's have that conversation closer to the deadline. Let's see what Patrick Kane wants,' and it's possible that he gets flipped, and therefore the Red Wings get an asset for Patrick Kane, who is a UFA on July 1st. He has the full no-trade clause, Patrick Kane does, so he and Pat Brisson would have a big say, but the bottom line is that this is a win-win for Detroit. Either he gets them into the playoffs, it's a great story - or Detroit potentially at least nets an asset for the future Hall of Famer."

Darren Dreger mentioned the Buffalo Sabres as a team who was in on Kane before he signed in Detroit as a possible landing spot for Kane should he opt for a move if Detroit ends up out of the race and Buffalo ends up in the hunt.
